Eligibility

Eligibility is based on whether your disability prevents you from performing the tasks needed to ride regular bus service some or all of the time.  You must apply and be found eligible ahead of time to use

this program.  Applicants will be asked to have a certified physician complete a form describing the applicant’s disability.

Persons who have been found eligible may need to have their eligibility re-certified periodically.  Written notice of the need for re-certification will be sent.

The Humboldt Senior Resource Center and Arcata &  Mad River Transit also have a joint paratransit eligibility agreement through the City of Eureka. Persons found eligible by those agencies are eligible to use paratransit services.

The Eureka, Arcata, and McKinleyville Dial-a-Ride/Lift information is available in braille, large print, half- speed four-track cassette tape and computer disk.  All materials may be requested on a check-out condition, by those applicants inquiring or applying for the Dial-a-Ride Services.  For more information, call Humboldt Transit Authority Office at 707-443-0826, or send an e-mail to admin@hta.org.

Persons with disabilities visiting Humboldt County from outside the county area should contact the HTA office (see information above) in advance of arriving to establish visitor status.  Visitors can receive paratransit service for 21 days out of any 365-day period.  Receiving service beyond  21 days requires an eligibility determination by Humboldt County.
